SUMMER BBQ – 18th JULY 2026 – 4pm until late. The next major Upwey Society event is the Summer BBQ following on from the tremendously successful Open Gardens event. In recent years Upwey has held The Big Affair in August but discussions among a number of Upsoc members showed a keen interest with re-instating the former Annual BBQ – this used to be held with permission from the local farmers – the Foot family. And for this year the BBQ will be hosted by Steve and Jan Shine in their lakeside garden at Eastbrook House.

The BBQ is for Upwey Society members and their family and friends and also for wider community within the Upwey Society boundary which does encompass some of Broadwey (west of the railway, north of Littlemoor road and Mill Street). In keeping with the spirit of a traditional village fete, we will be focussing on simple, inclusive fun. Highlights will include:

Classic games for both children and adults, such as the egg-and-spoon race, sack race and wheelbarrow race, Tug of War for all ages, a treasure hunt, face painting.

To get us into the party spirit there will be live music by the acclaimed Blair and the Bullets. From 6pm we will serve a BBQ meal, with a vegetarian option. There will also be a cash drinks bar, and ice lollies available throughout the day.

As this event is being held at a private residence, numbers will be limited and no dogs please. We are therefore offering priority booking to members and volunteers. Ticket prices shall include the BBQ meal.

£10 for Members (maximum of 2 tickets per household).
£15 for all non-Members.
Free for children under 16.

All tickets must be purchased in advance. Please confirm the type and number of tickets you would like and include the number of children you will be bringing by 10 July please. Would you also advise if any of your party require a vegetarian or vegan meal. If there are any remaining places, these will be offered to the wider Upwey community & Friends, but as an Upsoc member you can bring friends at the £15 non-member rate.

Once we receive your confirmation, we will provide bank details for payment and, upon receipt of monies, tickets will be issued for entry and catering.
