Planning and other local issues

The Upwey Society recognises that new housing will be needed in the Weymouth and Dorchester areas. Positioned, as we are, in between the two and on the northernmost edge of the Weymouth built-up area, there is bound to be pressure to build here.

We believe that any proposed developments should:

  • be consistent with the character of the particular part of Upwey to which they relate;
  • be in line with the Local Plan originally approved by Weymouth and Portland Council (now Dorset Council);
  • not place additional and unmanageable burdens on infrastructure such as roads, sewerage etc

Many applications will fall within those critera and so the Society does not comment on them.

Current applications that we have taken a position on are covered in our news items.
